About The University:
The University of the West of Scotland is Scotland’s largest modern university with over 19,500 students of whom 1,400 are international students.
The university has close links with industry and commerce and its courses reflect the latest trends in the marketplace and complement the demands of these sectors.
The university has four campuses – in Paisley, Ayr, Hamilton and Dumfries.
It teaches a wide range of courses through three faculties:- Business and Creative Industries
- Education, Health and Social Sciences
- Science and Technology.
Support for learning
The university operates a Buddy project on all four campuses: newly arrived students are matched with an established student to help them settle in.
The Enabling Support team can arrange support, facilities and resources (such as relevant assistive technologies) for students who have a disability or specific impairment.
Access courses for adults and pupils- The university recognises Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP) courses and it has developed joint courses with further education colleges which allow direct transfer from college to university.
- The University participates in Focus West, a programme of activities delivered in 29 secondary schools to support targeted pupils who may be thinking about applying to further and higher education.
- Current Focus West projects include ‘Routes for All’, a two year programme of workshops for S5/6 pupils.
Advanced entry
If you have a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) you may get into a degree course at year 2 or 3.
Part time study
The university offers a wide range of part time and flexible degree and postgraduate study options as well as online learning courses. There is a variety of evening, weekend and summer programmes which create flexible entry and progression routes for individual students.

Did you know?- The University of the West of Scotland is on schedule with the construction of custom built premises on the banks of the river Ayr by September 2011.
- It has the largest school of nursing and midwifery in Scotland, with 2,500 students.
